Experience

Education is a valuable commodity to have. Unfortunately, in the United States, not every child has the opportunity to receive equal education. This is why I am here. I want to help students learn as much as they can. I will always be there to motivate them and cheer them on. I do not teach by using punishment (such as extra homework). I teach by rewarding students on what they learn. Throughout the years, I have tutored many individuals. As part of a youth program, I tutored students of different age ranges -- from elementary school to high school. I taught them reading, writing, math, and computer skills. In addition, I have also tutored adults too. I tutored a retired police officer in how to write. I tutored a young, Korean mother in preparing for the TOEFL exam, a exam which tests a foreigner's fluency in English. Besides tutoring, I have also taught English and history at a nearby college. Before joining the education field, I was a reporter for five years. During that time, I learned many skills -- from writing to editing to interviewing skills. For this reason, one of the main areas that focus upon English. I try to think of creative ways to teach students the importance of writing and reading. For instance, one assignment I gave my students included having them write a "fake" chapter to their favorite book. The students enjoyed this assignment, because they could use their imagination on some of their favorite characters. Not only were they having fun, but they were learning too. While English maybe my main topic, I can teach in other fields as well. I know basic math skills. I can teach algebra, advanced algebra, and basic statistics. I can also teach biology and any of the social sciences including history, sociology, and political science. I have also been trained in prepping students for the ACt. My goal is not to pressure the students. I want them to be excited to learn. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Hobbies

My favorite hobby is to read. I especially like to read mysteries and thrillers. Some of my favorite authors include John Grisham and Michael Crichton. However, the best book I ever read was Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities." I think Dickens' use of imagery is wonderful. I also love to run. My goal is to one day finish a marathon. Right now, I am training for a half marathon. I am a big sports fan. I root for the Buckeyes, the Cavaliers, the Indians, and the Browns. It's hard not to root for the buckeyes in my family. Many of my family members have either worked or studied at the Ohio State University. I also enjoy watching movies. My friends tease me for how much I enjoy Indiana Jones. I'm a big fan of adventure movies.
