I have five and a half years experience teaching English/Language Arts. I am certified to teach Language Arts grades 7-12; additionally, I have a Master's degree in American Literature. As a classroom teacher, I have worked with a wide range of learners and have had the opportunity to tutor students individually as well as in small groups. As a teacher and tutor, I teach the required skills and strategies needed to master the ACT and SAT English and Reading tests as well as End of Course grade level tests. In my classroom, I implement reading and note-taking strategies for both fiction and nonfiction texts to increase comprehension and strengthen analytical skills. I conduct writing workshops, and guide students to appreciate the relevance of effective communication. I use various forms of instruction, evaluation and assessment and provide students with positive feedback and encouragement. Using these strategies, my students become more confident readers, researchers, and writers. Through my experience as a classroom teacher, I am able to successfully modify lessons and methods of instruction for each student. I strive to ensure that my students feel that they can be successful. I have high expectations for my students, and I encourage them to take an active role in their own learning.
