Experience
While some tutors shy away from students who are reluctant to learn or several grade-levels behind peers of their age, I embrace students like this the most. I enjoy working with all students, but through my vast experience working with at-risk children, I have learned how to motivate students who currently don't enjoy school or learning. I cannot make every student enthusiastic about obtaining an education, but I can help them create and meet educational goals. I have taught in a classroom for five years, so I have experience teaching a wide variety of students in a group and one-on-one. I begin my work with each new student I tutor by creating a positive relationship filled with mutual respect. I also create mutual goals that we both agree need to be achieved, so we can judge the progress of every session by how close we are to meeting those goals. While I have the skills to bring students behind in their grades up to the level they need to be, I can also work with more advanced students to help them get even further ahead in their studies. I am excited to move out of the traditional classroom setting and more into one-on-one tutoring, while I further my own education in graduate school.
