Experience

I have always enjoyed tutoring both my friends and underclassmen, and I find tutoring to be very rewarding. Every person learns in a different way, and sometimes traditional classrooms can't offer that kind of environment. One-on-one tutoring makes up for that, and I know from experience what a difference that can make. All throughout high school, I tutored friends in various subjects--mostly math and science classes--but also occasionally English and history. I helped tutor elementary school students who failed the OAA (Ohio Achievement Assessment, formerly OAT) in reading and writing skills. I also taught art classes for kids at the Mt. Washington Educational Arts Center. I earned a 1990 on the SAT and I have taken the following AP classes: English Literature and Composition, Art History, 2-D Design Studio, and Chemistry. As my high school was unable to offer AP Calculus, my senior year I took calculus as a night class at University of Cincinnati. I have 3 years of work experience in engineering, and am currently a freelance design engineer, making my schedule very flexible.

Hobbies

I love reading, and although I majored in engineering, I still enjoy making art. I also practice kendo (Japanese fencing), and was an officer of my university's club all throughout college. I went to an art school for 8 years (4th-12th grade), though I ended up being more interested in math and science, so I chose to become a mechanical engineer. I believe that learning should be fun, even if school doesn't make it seem that way. So as a tutor, my goal has always been to show that what I'm teaching is worth learning.
